OTHER PROBATE MATTERS
CONSERVATORSHIPS
A conservatorship is a protective legal proceeding to appoint an agent to care for a person when evidence exists indicating that the person is no longer capable of managing their own affairs due to illness, age, or decreased capacity. Conservatorships can help protect your loved one from neglect, undue influence, and people who are interested in manipulating them for their own gain.
GUARDIANSHIPS
Guardianships are created in order to protect the financial and legal interests of a minor. Similar in many ways to conservatorships, guardianships provide a court approved adult with the legal authority to manage a minor’s affairs. Establishing a guardianship can help protect a child from neglect, undue influence, and other unfortunate circumstances. Being appointed guardian of a child allows a family member or family friend to be involved in medical, education, and financial decisions when the child’s legal parents are unable to do so.
